End of the Year

The following is a copy of an email sent to all subscribed to our email list by our founder & president, Ben Broghammer:

Hi Everyone,

As we approach the end of 2017, I want to recap the past year, and showcase some of our accomplishments and news.  First, thank you to everyone who has made a donation to our organization this year, and has helped support our work!  Your generosity and continued commitment means so much to me and all of us involved at Project Periwinkle, and I am thankful for what your support allows us to do.  If you have not made a contribution, and would like to before the year ends, there is still time, and any gift, large or small, makes a huge difference and is so much appreciated!

Cancer research is the most important step to finding a cure.  We were formed with a research heavy mindset, and while we strive and hope our work and the support we provide, will lead to a cure for stomach cancer, we also hope what is discovered will help and contribute to a cure for all cancers.  Cancer is a disease that touches so so many lives every year, and I cannot wait until the day we are able to say cancer is a thing of the past.

In June, we became a participating organization in the Thrivent Choice Program through Thrivent Financial where members of Thrivent can direct where their charitable outreach funds go.  As an approved charity, we are part of a community of non-profits nationwide. If you are a member of Thrivent Financial, this is a tremendous opportunity to support our organization and our work.

Stomach cancer research is extremely costly, and with only 0.27% of the National Cancer Institute’s research budget going to stomach cancer research, it is nearly entirely up to non-profits to support research.  Stomach cancer is the fifth most common, and has a five-year survival rate of 29%.  Every dollar we raise goes toward fulfilling our mission, and with no one at our organization accepting compensation for their work, and keeping our overhead far below the industry average, we are able to maximize our impact.

We are hoping to make a contribution to another cancer center in 2018, and we would not and cannot fulfill our mission without the generous support we receive.  If you have already made a donation, thank you again so very much for your support!  If you have not, please keep us in mind for your end of the year charitable giving.  All donations are tax-deductible, and your support will go a long way in helping find a cure for cancer.  We also have a number of new items online available for purchase, and all profits go to stomach cancer research.

We started as an organization pointed toward a cure for gastric cancer, and we are sailing right toward the day we, as a world, can say a cure for cancer has been found.  Thank you for your continued support, and for being a part of the movement to make our world a better place.

Sincerely,

Ben Broghammer
